The Battle of the Boats commenced in 1999 as a carnival for boaties and with their needs in mind.
That first year 63 crews competed. In 2000 it won the Country Event of the Year. In 2002 113 crews competed and 130 crews in 2003.
Last year a record 180 crews competed.  2010 is shaping up to be even bigger and better.
The carnival has deservedly gained a reputation as a well run event in a beautiful part of the world.
It provides crews with  top level competition leading into State and Aussie titles.

Please remember our beautiful beach is in a National Park - no dogs, no camping, no fires.

FANTASTIC COMPETITION  -  FANTASTIC LOCATION

Guaranteed 3 races each day and be off the beach by 3.00pm (even earlier on Sunday)

    .

    Just got home.
Another great weekend starting with lunch at the Plough Inn hotel Bulladelah. Then on to Pacific Palms club to book in along with the rest of the officials (up from 13 last year to 28 this year)
    Record entries of crews; 209
The weekend is all about discipline moving the boats from one area to the other without interfering with races in progress. The newcomers found it a bit odd but soon fell into line after one or two ‘G-ups’ which by Sunday had the carnival running like a Swiss clock.
1½ hours per round in morning block [Reserve, u23m, U23w, U19s]. 1hr for the afternoon block [Open, Women, Masters] with the boat relay run at noon Saturday had us off the beach at 4pm and into the Rec club for the evening activities…….Packed to the rafters, and all good fun….No problems at all. Maybe just one problem…Sparrow got engaged to someone at the Reccy on Saturday nite. We don’t know who to, even which gender, or how old….The silly little bugger does it EVERY year and then has to go thru the pain of breaking someone’s heart when he calls the jam off.
Sunday; Reserves first up and quite a few pull outs due to hang overs or some other excuse. This is a total NO, NO and serious implications are being considered for next year which could see the offender's CLUB being penalised for the slackness of a few. It buggers up the scoring system for the recorders and causes High Court drama when it comes to the cut. So if you’re in, you’re in for the long haul, hang over or not.
Same format as the Saturday and same turn around had us off the beach at 4.20pm starting the finals at 3.15pm
Referee Ron Pommering centreing the two areas for the finals which worked a treat.
The final of the Open Boat was as good as you will ever see [repeat, as good as you will EVER see] a race caller’s bad dream and a tower judge’s nightmare. Six boats off together, hitting the cans as if choreographed and hitting the line as one on the [only] wave of the day.
The Avoca Grease Monkeys continue to scare me…Taking out a very high quality U19 final, whilst only just able to row [16yrs of age is the legal]
Thankyou president Kel, bean counter Pat, and of course Soozee. Dave in the Bar and all the helpers at Pac Palms right down to the little kids……..nothing was ever too big an ask. St John were again in attendance and treated every thing from Bluey stings to a gashed head [bowman, so it doesn’t really count]
My ‘lost and found’ dept finished the day with 100% record having found a license owner, a wallet owner, an Ipod phone owner, a boat crew, a lost bloke, and a lost official.

It was a great weekend. Eight hotly contested races + PRIZE MONEY[b]
